Kids Volunteer Day and Summer Volunteer Camp Teachers
POSITION OVERVIEW
Kids Give Back is seeking teachers to manage our Kids Volunteer Days and Summer Volunteer Camps. These positions involve supervising, educating, and leading elementary school children, ages 6-12, in volunteer service activities. The teachers need to be reliable, have strong classroom management skills, and be able to build good relationships with the camp attendees and with teen counselors.
Kids Give Back is a nonprofit organization in Northern Virginia that provides elementary school children with volunteer service opportunities. Every volunteer project meets specific needs in our community, such as food insecurity, needs of hospitalized children, support for animal shelters, and more. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of volunteer leaders through meaningful volunteer service.
Since its founding in 2019, Kids Give Back has:
- Hosted or participated in 45 volunteer service events, including Summer Volunteer Camp, Winter Volunteer Camp, Kids Volunteer Days, Family Volunteer Days and Virtual Volunteer events.
- Engaged 1,500 participants as young as six-years-old in preparing donations for 70 nonprofit organizations such as FACETS, Second Story, Committee for Helping Others, and NVFS.
- Prepared and delivered 10,000 in-kind donations such as meals, snack packs, art supply kits, camp supply kits, baby baskets and more for low-income families and individuals.
- Invested more than $40,000 in our community through in-kind donations.
- Engaged youth, teens, and adults in 3,000 volunteer hours.
THE POSITION
In 2025, we are seeking teachers for the following dates, and others will be added:
- January 29, Kids Volunteer Day, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fairfax, 9am-3pm
- June 16-20, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fairfax, 9:30am-12:30pm
- July 7-11, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fairfax, full day, 9:30am-4:30pm
- July 21-25, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fairfax, 9:30am-12:30pm
Each camp will include volunteer service projects, guest speakers from local nonprofits, free play, and time for reflection and discussion about what it means to volunteer and give back to the community. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises, with another teacher, up to 24 children, ages 6-12.
- Supervises the implementation of all volunteer service projects which will be planned and organized by the Kids Give Back program coordinator. Project directions and supplies will be provided by Kids Give Back.
- Maintains order throughout the day by organizing children into teams, monitoring their behavior, and ensuring that they respect the volunteer service projects, guest speakers, and properties where the camps are held.
- Checks the children in and out of camp, ensuring that they are signed-out by individuals authorized by their parents.
- Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and volunteer service.
- Works closely with teen volunteers to manage the volunteer service projects and camp attendees.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains a safe environment for the children.
- Provides First Aid as needed.
- Remains onsite until every camp attendee and teen volunteer has been picked-up by an adult.
- Cleans-up and organizes the camp location throughout the week and leaves it in good condition.
- Attends a planning meeting in advance of each service day or camp.
- Provides a debrief to the Kids Give Back staff after each camp with observations and recommendations.
This position reports to the Kids Give Back executive director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Salary: This is a contract position which pays $22/hour; benefits are not available.
- Applicants should be substitute teachers, certified teachers, instructional assistants, school counselors or others who work closely with elementary school children and have at least two years of experience.
- Ideally, applicants will be First-Aid/CPR/AED certified.

Kids Give Back Program Intern

Kids Give Back is seeking a Program Intern to assist us with data entry, grant research, events planning, fundraising, social media, and program development.

THE POSITION
We are seeking a passionate and motivated intern to join our team. The intern will have the opportunity to contribute to key projects, support ongoing campaigns, and gain valuable insight into the workings of a small nonprofit organization. Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks based on their skills and interests.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Data entry: Create a database of nonprofit contacts and projects using Network for Good (training is available); assist with survey results.
- Research: Identify grant opportunities in Youth Development and the Top Philanthropic organizations in the Washington, DC area; evaluate partnership opportunities in regional schools and organizations.
- Plan and assist with fundraising events, including an adult social in March and a potential Spring Volunteer Festival; co-staff a Kids Volunteer Day and individual volunteer service events.
- Social media outreach: Assist with content development.
- Collaborate with team members on various projects and contribute fresh ideas.
- Participate in weekly meetings and provide feedback on initiatives and strategies.
This position reports to the Kids Give Back executive director and program coordinator.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- This is primarily a virtual position, with periodic in-person meetings and special events.
- Internship requires 20 hours per week.
- This is an unpaid internship.
- Applicants should have an interest in or experience working with young children.
- Strong passion for social impact and community service.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and basic design tools (preferred but not required).
- College degree or equivalent preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365, Google Docs, and Zoom.
- Experience with WordPress and Canva a bonus.
